My Reaction:
The debate about whether the decriminalization can help decrease the rate of drug abuse has remained under discussion. Recently, the positive example is Portugal, which became the first European country to officially abolish all criminal penalties for personal possession of drugs. However, the U.S is on the contrary side. The penalties there are severe, but surprisingly, it has the highest rates of cocaine and marijuana use in the world.
People who stand for replacing the punishment with the offer of therapy claim that incarceration is more expensive than treatment. A group of psychologists, social workers and legal advisers are said to be more beneficial than jury. Moreover, there are surely a large number of statistics to prove this statement.
Nevertheless, another side points out a significant difference between these two countries--- their size and culture. Hence, it is not fair to compare them. As far as I am concerned, the latter one is more reasonable. Their backgrounds are too different to administer the same law. I am wondering if we also take this ruling method in Taiwan, what will the result be. The answer depends on individual, but as for me, a pessimist toward human nature, it may be the doomsday of the world. It is so challenging that allows people to have an access to the hell, but wants them to be angels.

My reaction:
There is no doubt that computer has changed our life influencing our attitude toward lots of things. The most apparent one may be the way we communicate with each other.
According to this article, the writer is talking about Facebook, which now has played an indispensable role in many people’s life. People addicted to using Facebook every day are called to have Facebook Recluse Syndrome. One patient mentions its magic that it makes her feel like she has a grip on her world. In addition, it makes her feel like she’s part of something even if she’s neglecting people in the flesh, and the doctor’s prescription is that it enabled them to convey information without forcing them to interact. However, as for most users, the problem is comparatively minor. Facebook is merely regarded helping us maintain existing connections. The site serves as a self-updating address book, keeping users connected no matter their geographical shifts.I am a moderate user. Too many things have to be tackled on the Internet, so no matter how busy or tired I am, opening the computer and surfing the Internet have become my daily routine. Apart from the must-done work, the sites such as Facebook really attract my attention, alluring me to chat with people online. I couldn’t help playing around the clock without sensing the illness, online sociability and offline silence, so now I force myself to use it no more than two hours per day.

My Reaction:
One Muslim believes that through the new American president, Obama’s guidance, the real peace will appear. In fact, since the 911 attack, the Muslim world has been labeled terrorism. Their culture is considered out of date; however, there is a quiet revolution crawls.
Similar to a baby’s growing, the speed of change may be slow but firm. One said it’s a nonviolent revolution trying to mix modernity and religion. It’s almost impossible and unnecessary to get rid of those all old customs as well as values. They still hold a great deal of importance to enhance people’s lives. What has to be done is endeavor to strike a balance between the old and the new.
According to the report, some people are dedicating themselves to taking charge of the mission. Take two for example. One woman champions the freedom of speech and women’s rights instead of shying away from the obstacles. An ambitious young man preaches the Islam faith in a novel way on TV programs. Not beyond our expectations, they both suffer overwhelming objections.
Nevertheless, as the female activist mentioned that the veil gives women more power in a man’s world, which I comprehend as a compromise with old restriction but a much broader way to expand the ultimate goal. Rather than waste time to argue about trivial matters, intelligent leaders know exactly what they want—a more self-confidence in the Islamic world about dealing with reason, constitutionalism, science and other big issues that define modern society.
As far as I am concerned, unlike the prior several waves of change, the ongoing one is more flexible and acceptable to the majority. The prosperous future in Muslim world just as Shelley’s poem—if winter comes, can spring be far behind? Let’s wait and see. (294 words)

My Reaction:
“It goes without saying, a good car at a low price will sell well in global markets,” said a head of Asia forecasting; however, about a few years ago, this idea was considered a joke especially in prosperous countries, such as America. They then put emphasis on the comfort as well as safety, and no one could have prophesied our dire situation now. The whole environment has changed. Not only economy but also nature calls on a more environmentally friendly compact which consumes less gasoline.
As far as I am concerned, the invention of Tata Nano, such a cheap small car is a gospel to meet my necessity. For one thing, it costs much cheaper allowing common people to purchase in order to improve the inconvenience ridden only by scooters or bicycles. For another, this kind of car is said to decrease the use of gas, which matters significantly now due to the fluctuation of oil market.
Nevertheless, there is still one potential problem tormenting me. What will our environment become worse or better, if a swarm of people own these attractive cars? It is likely that because of demand overweighing supply, the selling price and gas price tower instead. Moreover, the accumulation of waste air emitted by many riders may cause a more devastating damage to natural environment.
Besides, its safety is also a big concern. One commentator joked that if people hit a deer with the Nano, they have to ride the deer to work. Obviously, he exaggerates its danger. In fact, the compact is designed to use only for city driving , and up to date, no car accident happened simply out of the car itself having problem. (281 words)

“ Enjoy with Absolut responsibility.” This slogan not only attracts the customers’ attention but also conveys a deep meaning, the social responsibility of enterprise. It is said that during the hardest time, people tend to be more addicted to various enjoyments, such as movies and beverages. No wonder according to the recent survey, those two items are cash cow , which means now we are encountering the global recession. Nevertheless, the reason may be that it’s a delightful way to shun those tedious and unpleasant experiences happened in real world. They have the magic to help ease pressure. Especially the alcoholic liquors, they can do more than wipe out miseries temporarily but keep you away from them for good----because one is already in the heaven.
Sinking in an abyss of grief, an alcoholic who can’t help drinking needs someone to give a hand. The savior could be retailers, bartenders, even as well as consumers themselves now. The company puts emphasis on drinking in moderation rather than merely encouraging drinking at random. As for bartenders, they are taught when it’s the right time to stop costomers from losing consciousness. Moreover, if one exactly knows in advance that he is going to bottom up, there is a function in the cellphone to remind him of avoiding excessive drinking.
There is always a controversy about whether those addictive products should be advertised widely in public. Take cigarette and alcoholic drinks for example. Sometimes they are even in dispute when one movie has too many shots about them; however, if the company now has self-consciousness to save the society, they seem to become more lovely and welcome to show up. Undoubtedly, this business strategy has positive effects on both the public and company itself.(291 words)

My Reaction:
According to an up to date poll survey done by Americans, nearly everyone celebrates this festival regardless of the religion as well as race. It is interesting that people identify with Christmas because of a variety of reasons. In fact, the festival has been commercialized that it is considered a good time to do the shopping. However, owning to the global economic recession, the sales are said to decline, so this year the mayor of the New York even called upon to encourage the public to buy more.
There is another crucial reason why people celebrate Christmas that they agree on its spirits-peace and happiness. In these recent years,a number of conflicts happen, and many poor people suffer from them, living under the shadow of uncertainty and fear. Some may stand up to fight against what is called enemies;nevertheless, the desire for a peaceful life undoubtedly roots in their hearts.Of all the conflicts, the Mid-East especially draws our attention because this is the place where Jesus Christ is said to be born but now in horrible condition.Christmas is a time to share joy.Instead of throwing real bombs, why not enjoying the explosion of love not only in Christmas but also every daily life? Shrek musical opens on Broadway

My Reaction:
In recent years, there has been a dozens of animated films adapted for stage plays on Broadway;however, few of them really turned out a blockbuster.Take Tarzan and The Little Mermaid for example.Although they already have great fame, the advertising can be saved. Both of them still received overwhelming criticism, and cost numerous money. Therefore, this time Dream Workers taking the plunge to spend an arm and a leg is considered an adventure.
Undoubtedly, the show is a big success.According to the attendants of the opening performance, totally different from the movie, the play arouses dynamics as well as chemistry. With Tony-nominated actor’s vivid interpretation, the green ogre brings a lot of joy to the audience.
As everyone knows that now we are in global depression.People suffer from great burden of life,so they tend to laugh less.Shrek is said to make people burst into laughter because of the humorous plot.Irony is characteristic of the story;that is,it makes fun of other famous films. The play retains the core of it,which the audience can not help but giggle at.If the show maintains making a big hit for a long time,it can be thought of as a miracle in the financial swamp.(about 200 words)
