My Reaction:
One Muslim believes that through the new American president, Obama’s guidance, the real peace will appear. In fact, since the 911 attack, the Muslim world has been labeled terrorism. Their culture is considered out of date; however, there is a quiet revolution crawls.
Similar to a baby’s growing, the speed of change may be slow but firm. One said it’s a nonviolent revolution trying to mix modernity and religion. It’s almost impossible and unnecessary to get rid of those all old customs as well as values. They still hold a great deal of importance to enhance people’s lives. What has to be done is endeavor to strike a balance between the old and the new.
According to the report, some people are dedicating themselves to taking charge of the mission. Take two for example. One woman champions the freedom of speech and women’s rights instead of shying away from the obstacles. An ambitious young man preaches the Islam faith in a novel way on TV programs. Not beyond our expectations, they both suffer overwhelming objections.
Nevertheless, as the female activist mentioned that the veil gives women more power in a man’s world, which I comprehend as a compromise with old restriction but a much broader way to expand the ultimate goal. Rather than waste time to argue about trivial matters, intelligent leaders know exactly what they want—a more self-confidence in the Islamic world about dealing with reason, constitutionalism, science and other big issues that define modern society.
As far as I am concerned, unlike the prior several waves of change, the ongoing one is more flexible and acceptable to the majority. The prosperous future in Muslim world just as Shelley’s poem—if winter comes, can spring be far behind? Let’s wait and see. (294 words)
